Laser Liposuction Technique

Laser liposuction, also called liposculpture or laser lipolysis, makes use of laser technology to get rid of excess body fat. In some types, laser probes are inserted into tiny openings in the skin to melt away fat, paving the way for gentler and easier suction, while in other types, no incisions are made and no suction takes place. Rather, the laser energy penetrates the skin, dissolving fat from the outside.

Laser Liposuction vs. Traditional Suction-Assisted Liposuction

Laser liposuction has several advantages over traditional suction-assisted liposuction. For one, it uses smaller cannulas that house the laser probes, so smaller incisions are required, leaving less visible scarring and in some cases, none at all.

Because these cannulas emit laser heat, surgeons do not need to move them back and forth to loosen up the fat cells, which is what is usually done during suction-assisted liposuction. This eliminates damage to the surrounding tissues, nerves and blood vessels, and also requires less effort from the surgeon.

Also, laser liposuction results in minimal bruising and swelling, which in turn, accounts for less downtime.

Aside from dissolving excess fat, laser liposuction has benefits on the skin, as well. Mainly, the laser heat tightens the collagen layers of the skin, resulting in smoother and visibly better-looking skin.

Laser Liposuction Risks

Laser liposuction comes with its own risks, too, though. These include irregular skin contours, skin burns and necrosis. Still, some surgeons maintain that it is a generally safe procedure while others argue that it is not any safer than traditional liposuction, nor as effective, just more expensive.

Laser Liposuction Systems

Over the years, various companies have come up with their own laser liposuction systems in a bid to outdo each other and provide surgeons and consumers alike with the optimal benefits of laser technology.
